Bodify Contouring & Coaching

Do you ever wonder what it would be like to know you were managing a healthy lifestyle and feel “good” living in your body? For many, it may seem like a pipe dream. But in 2019, that was the question facing Jacalyn Poyner.

“I’ve struggled with my weight my entire life,” Jacalyn said. “When you have a corporate lifestyle and high stress, it makes for a real challenge to find a clear balance with your personal health.”

Poyner’s question would soon become more important, as she instinctively believed something was critically wrong with her health. “I just knew it,” she said. “I would later learn I had stage two breast cancer.”

After meeting with doctors for tests and recommendations, Poyner was eventually referred to an oncologist who suggested chemotherapy. “I had done my research and understood how chemotherapy could affect my body. I told the doctor I didn’t think I was going that direction.”

Follow-up consultations didn’t go well, as Poyner believed additional harm could come from chemotherapy. Cancer runs in her family, often with fatal results. “I lost my father to brain cancer, as well as other family members,” she said. “Everyone I knew who was diagnosed died from it and that’s not going to be me!’”

She immediately began working with a health coach, adapting her lifestyle and diet to lose weight and commit to healthier nutritional choices. A health coach partners with clients, empowering changes towards their overall health and well-being. They are not medical professionals but experts in motivational strategies, behavioral change, and health education.

Poyner’s results were 60 lbs. lost and the complete removal of sugar from her diet. As of January 9, she has also been cancer free for five years.

“When I left those oncology clinics back then, I knew I never wanted anyone to feel like I did in that moment. I wanted them to know there’s more than one way to give yourself a fighting chance against cancer,” she said.

Her post-cancer results and the experience with her health coach inspired Poyner to return to school, where she became a certified health coach and a nutritional health practitioner. From there, she launched her online coaching and counseling site, Inspire Me 2 Health.

“I do individual coaching, including diagnostic testing,” she said. “That can range from guthealth and metabolic testing to food sensitivity panels and hair and facial analysis. I offer suggestions, plans, and programs that can help you achieve your goals. It’s not just about the food or the exercise. It is about the lifestyle. It’s about the stress, the mindset, and the commitment.”

After finishing school, Poyner began working with Dr. Tracy Tedford-Latham, a chiropractor and owner of ChiroFlex Clinic in Beebe. The two formed an immediate bond, understanding how their respective fields could easily complement one another.

Dr. Tedford-Latham has a passion for teaching whole body balance and function, with an emphasis on enhancing a person’s total quality of life. This can be achieved through a plethora of avenues and may include addressing inflammatory conditions, neurologically based disorders, metabolic function, reduction in body pain, and even aesthetic concerns like body contouring and weight loss.

She has learned that how a patient feels not only on the inside, but also how they feel in their skin and day-to-day is incredibly important. “The chiropractic profession is about brain-body communication, since every function of the body receives their operating orders from the brain and nerves”.

Tedford-Latham chose the profession due to personal family struggles with brain-based traumatic conditions and illness. “I was pre-med in college but didn’t finish due to my own unexpected health issue,” she said. “An event in 2007 changed my life with my daughter being diagnosed with autism, autoimmunity, and systemic impacts, which took a toll”. For years it felt like despite her best efforts of care, more was needed.

“Over the next few years, I lost my father to cancer and my mother was diagnosed with dementia. During that time, my daughter and I began chiropractic care in hopes of improved health”. The chiropractor who cared for them explained the whole-body benefit, and encouraged Tedford-Latham to finish what she started years ago.

“Combining many facets of care with a focus of red-light therapy and laser has been a successful model for my practice, and I love celebrating the outcomes with my patients.”

Now, Dr. Tedford-Latham and Poyner are combining their respective expertise to open Bodify Contouring and Coaching in Bryant. Both agree their mission will provide healing to the entire body and will include weight loss and contouring, anti-aging, counseling on nutrition, stability, structure, and mindset. “Everything has to align if you want to produce the best outcome.”

“Our vision is that everyone in Bryant and Saline County is aware there are alternatives to surgery and drugs,” Dr. Tedford-Latham said. “We also want them to know that we are excited to help them attain whole body wellness regardless of their areas of struggle.”

With an array of options already available through Bodify Contouring and Coaching, Jacalyn Poyner insists there’s still room to grow. “Definitely life coaching. That involves preparing and disciplining the mind for a better life. Until you adjust your mind, any weight lost or changes made will eventually come back because your thinking hasn’t changed.”
