Rich Hesley has always taken a hands-on approach when it comes to building a new home,. Rich began his building career over 20 years ago while working as a framer.
“After graduating college, I went to work framing houses,” he said. “I was out there swinging a hammer. I always knew I was going to own my own business.”
He spent that time learning what it really takes to build a quality home. “I’ve always loved the process,” he said. “I like the idea of starting with nothing, building, and ending up with something I’m proud to say I built. I am one of the few builders in town that got their start doing the physical work.”
Hesley later went on to form his own framing crew, which led to the next step in founding Homes by Hesley. Rich continues to grow his contracting business while concurrently running a successful framing business with multiple crews. He recently added to his list of businesses with the addition of a trim company.
While Rich’s personal style leans toward more traditional design, he welcomes the opportunity to build different styles of homes. An on-staff interior designer is also available to assist clients in making choices related to colors, finishes and utilization of space. Rich wants to ensure the finished home is something that works for the family and they will be happy with for years to come.
Most of the subcontractors on his job sites work on his projects on a full time basis. “I like the fact that they are my guys working on my houses. I really have confidence in them and know that we are building the best product we can”, Rich says. “I am very hands on,” he added. “When I pull up to the job site and get out of the truck, I immediately get to work. I evaluate the project and see what the next move is. If something needs to be done, I do it. That’s the real fun of the process for me.”
Homes by Hesley averages approximately 20 new homes per year, ranging from starter homes to larger custom designed homes. Currently Homes by Hesley is launching a development in Harper’s Landing, just off of Springhill Road. “We have 10 lots in there. It’s going to be a great project.”
This development is convenient to the interstate, features a small neighborhood feel with dedicated green space and is located within the Bryant school district. Hesley also has building sites available in two subdivisions in the Ferndale and Lawson area that offer acreage and convenience to both Little Rock and Saline County.
The job for Hesley doesn’t stop the day his clients move into their new homes. “I think follow up and follow through are as much a part of this job as anything,” he said. We make sure that our clients are happy and work hard to make sure we keep our reputation.”
This level of commitment to his customers has led Hesley to one of his current projects, building the dream home of Arkansas’ own country sensation Justin Moore. Country music’s 2014 ACM New Artist of the Year built a home with Hesley more than four years ago. Moore was impressed with the work and contacted Hesley when his family decided to build their forever home in Saline County. “He’s a small town hero around here, Hesley said. “I’m building his dream home right now, and it’s a really amazing opportunity.”
What little time he takes off work, Rich spends with his daughter and son, ages 16 and 12. They spend their time on the lake, fishing or hunting. He enjoys the outdoors and has recently invested in some hunting land. “I have some acreage and an opportunity to build cabins and hunting camps,” he said. “I’d like to add that to my project list in the next few years. I plan to incorporate some unique ideas and reclaimed barn wood. I’m really excited about this project.”
Combining his fondness for the outdoors with his love of building sounds like the perfect match for Rich Hesley. You can guarantee no matter what the project is, he will be right in the middle, getting his hands dirty and making sure the job is done right.
