He’s making a list and checking it twice. He’s going to find out who’s naughty or nice! This iconic phrase from the song “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” is a traditional standard at Christmas time. The holiday season is usually about celebrating the people who bring joy to our lives. It is a time of giving, warm memories, and get-togethers with friends, family, and loved ones. Christmas is best known as a time for peace on Earth and good will toward all.
With that in mind, we can’t forget those few antagonists that do everything in their power to derail the reason for the season. Jack Frost, “Bumble” The Abominable Snowmonster, Ebenezer Scrooge, and The Grinch, to name a few. They are naughty–not nice–and if you aren’t careful they will rip all your presents from under the tree before you are even awake to see. The truth is, sometimes without a misguided yuletide bad guy; we might never know just how joyful the season really can be.
Most of these cold-hearted scoundrels are motivated by greed or just can’t seem to get into the spirit of the season. Characters like this are most commonly found in holiday themed television or movies, and you would be hard pressed to find the likes of a holiday villain in our community.
Saline County is blessed to be filled with the spirit of giving, sharing a selfless nature of focusing more on giving than receiving. Forward-thinking individuals, businesses, churches, schools, and community groups in our area spend endless time and money helping those in need.
Dr. Seuss wrote, “What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store? What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more?” The Grinch’s heart grew three sizes larger as he learned a lesson of love, charity, and the true spirit of giving. That is the spirit that we will highlight in the Saline County Lifestyles – 7th Annual Christmas Edition. You’ll find no “Bah Humbug” here, as we wish you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Your town. Your life. Your magazine.
