On May 23, 2013, HGTV viewers got their very first glimpse of home design and renovation supercouple Chip and Joanna Gaines as the pilot of Fixer Upper aired. The show became a ratings juggernaut as the first season got rolling in April of 2014.
Now a decade later, my wife and I find ourselves embarking on an adventure reminiscent of this TV show mainstay, as we purchased a charming 75-year-old home in the historic heart of downtown Benton. We’re excited to channel our inner Chip and Jo as we breathe new life into this beloved property.
That is exactly what inspired the theme of this issue of Lifestyles, in which we dive into the world of home renovation. Throughout the magazine, you’ll find tips and tricks for tackling your own renovations, whether you’re updating a kitchen, refreshing a bathroom, or giving your living room a new lease on life. We’ll explore budget-friendly options and DIY advice and highlight some of the latest trends that can revamp your space without sacrificing style.
We will showcase local business owners who embody the spirit of community and craftsmanship. From exploring creative carpentry options to picking the perfect paint colors, these professionals will share their personal stories of their business beginnings and inspire you to seek out local talent for your own projects. Supporting small businesses is essential—our community is full of resources to make a successful remodel journey possible.
I believe that every home has a story waiting to be told. Our new (old) house has endless potential. As we embark on this remodeling adventure, I’m reminded of the importance of preserving the past while embracing new ideas. Each room is a blank canvas ready to be infused with creativity and love. I hope this magazine inspires you to look at your home through a new lens.
Perhaps you’ve been contemplating a remodel, or you simply want to spruce up your living space. Remember: every great transformation starts with a vision and the courage to take that first step.
